FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EXTREME ROCK-CRAWLING ACTION
COMING TO FERNLEY RACEWAY
"Rampage In Fernley" California Rock-Crawling
and Off-Road Championship Series, Aug. 16 & Aug. 17
FERNLEY, NV (July 30, 2003) Come watch the biggest names in the sport of rock-crawling and meet the teams you see in the four-wheel drive magazines and on television.
The California Rock-crawling and Off-road Championship Series (CalROCS), will host Round 3 of the championship series Saturday, Aug. 16 and Sunday, Aug. 17 at the Fernley Raceway in Fernley, Nevada.
"This championship series draws the top rock-crawling competitors from throughout the United States," said Rich Klein, promoter of the CalROCS event. "It is not only exciting for the competing teams, but it is also extremely exciting for our spectators."
Klein explained that this event is not a race. The event involves technical courses for three separate vehicle classifications with a driver and a spotter working together trying to achieve the lowest possible score. Points are assessed to teams for stopping, backing up, touching a gate, wandering off the course or for required winching assistance.
Klein said that the Fernley Raceway technical courses would be placed very close together so that spectators can view all of the action.
The four-wheel drive vehicles used for this type of extreme competition are not your stock Jeeps or sport utility vehicles (SUVs) seen on the interstate highways. The vehicles may say Toyota 4-Runner, Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler; however, they have all been modified and fabricated to crawl over the biggest boulders and up the face of a steep hill.
The public is invited free of charge to meet the competitors and view their special-built rigs at Scolaris parking lot in Fernley, Friday, Aug. 15 from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m.
The spectator gates at the Fernley Raceway will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 and Sunday, Aug. 17, with competition beginning both days at 10 a.m.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children eight to 15 years of age and children seven and under are admitted free of charge. Food and beverage vendors will be available on the raceway grounds. Primitive camping is available at the Fernley Raceway.
Fernley is located approximately 25 miles east of Reno. From Reno, take Interstate 80 east to Exit 46 and turn right and proceed to ALT 95. Turn right on ALT 95 and proceed approximately four miles to the Fernley Raceway.
