CALIFORNIA 4-WHEEL DRIVE ASSOCIATION
ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR FEATHER RIVER FUN DAY

Oroville, CA, Saturday, October 13

SACRAMENTO (Aug. 29, 2007) – With the recent cancellation of its 41st annual Sierra Trek event due to extreme fire danger in the high Sierra, the California Association of Four-Wheel Drive Clubs has announced that it will host its first Feather River Fun Day, Saturday, Oct. 13 near Surplus City Jeep Parts, 4514 Pacific Heights Rd., on the Feather River approximately two miles south of Oroville.

Bob Reed, chairman for the Feather River event, said that it will be a fun-filled, exciting day with many activities for veteran four-wheelers and stock sport utility vehicle (SUV) owners.

"Association members and many other four-wheel drive owners from throughout northern California have contacted us explaining that they are disappointed that they can’t attend Sierra Trek this year," said Reed, "however, the majority of the callers asked about setting up another venue where they could share in off-road activities and meet fellow four-wheelers."

Reed said that the Feather River Fun Day will include off-road trails, vehicle games, a poker run, mud pit runs, snack bar, a giant raffle, and much more.

At the Surplus City facility, Association officials will offer a challenging rock crawling course with obstacles aptly named Turtle Rock and Samurai Hole. Reed said it might not be as long as the famed Rubicon Trail, but it will challenge the best drivers and their rigs.

Other activities will include a poker run rally for all vehicles on paved and dirt roads, vehicle games on site, a teeter-totter where vehicles try to balance for a minimum of eight seconds, and a giant raffle on Saturday night.

Reed said that the Oroville area offers many opportunities for sightseeing to nearby locations such as the Oroville Dam, the highest earthen filled dam in the United States; Feather Falls, the sixth highest waterfall in the country; and Sutter Buttes, the smallest mountain range in the world. In addition to Jeep parts, Surplus City is also home to the Military Museum of Butte County with a wide array of military memorabilia.

With the possibly the fall Salmon are running in the Feather River, anglers are encouraged to buy their license and bring their fishing tackle.

Cost for registration for the Feather River Fun Day is $35 per person and children under 10 years of age are welcome free of charge.

Recreational vehicles and tent camping is available at Riffle’s RV Park located adjacent to Surplus City. Cost is $20 per night.

In addition, Reed said that Saturday breakfast will be available for $5 per person and Saturday night dinner, with a choice of beef or chicken, will cost $10 per person.
