SUV OWNERS INVITED TO TOUR SCENIC
AND HISTORICAL HIGH SIERRA GOLD COUNTRY

Narrated Historical Tour, Saturday, May 22, 2004

Gold Country - Waterfalls.jpg (97383 bytes)GRASS VALLEY, CA (April 9, 2004) – Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and other four-wheel drive owners are invited to join the Sacramento-based Sierra Treasure Hunters 4X4 Club on its annual Spring Gold Country scenic and historical adventure in the high Sierra on Saturday, May 22.

According to Ron Kellogg, one of the club’s trip organizers, the tour is designed for families and will require some mild four-wheeling in some of the Mother Lode’s most beautiful backcountry.

"Thousands of people drive up and down Interstate 80 between the Bay Area and Nevada every weekend and wonder what is on the other side of the mountain and how did the early pioneers manage to push their wagon trains over such incredible obstacles," said Kellogg. "During our trip we will peer into yesteryear, while participants traverse sections of old mining routes, historical sites and hopefully, have an opportunity to view a wild deer grazing in a meadow."

Cindy Prentice of Lincoln was a participant on one of the recent SUV trips hosted by the Sierra Treasure Hunters. She had this to say about the trip: "I love learning about the history of an area and this trip was much better than going on your own and not knowing what you are looking at. It was fun being at the top of the mountains and seeing how our vehicle handled in four-wheel drive, low range."

Cost for this Spring Gold Country trip is $50 per adult and children 12 and under are welcome free of charge. The cost includes a gourmet continental breakfast and mouth-watering lunch served by the club’s famous trail chefs at the historic town of Washington.

Participants are asked to meet at the Empire Mine lower parking lot near Grass Valley at 7 a.m. for registration and breakfast and the tour should be complete by 5 p.m.

Trail committee officials recommend participants bring folding chairs, binoculars, camera, moist towelettes, a light jacket and sunscreen. While not mandatory, participants are also encouraged to bring a citizens band (CB) or family channel (FC) radio. Participants will receive detailed instructions with meeting location and a list of lodging in the Grass Valley and Auburn area.

To register for this exciting trip or for more information, contact Ron Kellogg at (916) 714-3230 or email kelloggr@saber.net or go to the web site  http://www.creationnonstop.com/sth/trips_future.html.
