SUV OWNERS INVITED ON FALL HIGH SIERRA ADVENTURE
Narrated Historical Tour, Saturday, October 18
CISCO GROVE (Sept. 14, 2003) Sport utility vehicle (SUV) and other four-wheel drive owners are invited to join the Sierra Treasure Hunters 4X4 Club on its 2nd annual Fall High Sierra scenic and historical SUV adventure on Saturday, Oct. 18.
According to Jim Bramham, trail boss and narrator for the tour, this trip is designed for families and will require some mild four-wheeling in some of the Mother Lodes most beautiful backcountry.
Bramham said the tour will include stops at the top of 7,829-foot signal peak, where guests will have a breathtaking 360-degree view of Donner Summit, Old Man Mountain and Spaulding Reservoir. Other stops will include Foydyce Lake, Cisco Butte, and Kelly Lake.
"Thousands of people drive up and down Interstate 80 between Sacramento and Reno and wonder what is on the other side of the mountain and how did the early pioneers manage to push their wagon trains over such tremendous mountain passes," said Bramham. "During the tour, we will peer into the past, while you traverse sections of old mining routes, historical sites and hopefully, have an opportunity to view the fall colors."
Bramham said the tour is well suited for any SUV or four-wheel drive pickup that has four-wheel drive, low range.
Dave Murphy and his son, Ryan, of Turlock, were guests on last years Fall SUV trip. Murphy had this to say about the trip, "it was just great is every respect. The views from Signal Peak were absolutely amazing and Jims commentary and historical information made the trip very interesting. Even though the four-wheeling was mild, my son and I were smiling as we climbed up and down the rocky roads."
Cost for the 2nd annual Fall High Sierra trip is $50 per adult and $25 for children 12 years of age and under. The cost includes a gourmet continental breakfast and mouth watering lunch on the trail.
Trail committee officials recommend participants bring camp-type folding chairs, camera and film, sunscreen, and a small cooler for water and soft drinks on the trail. All vehicles must have a current registration and insurance and drivers must possess a valid drivers license. While not mandatory, participants are also encouraged to bring a citizens band (CB) radio or family channel radio.
