CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF 4-WHEEL DRIVE CLUBS

SELECTS RAUDY AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

SACRAMENTO (Apr. 1, 2002) - - Jack Raudy, former consultant to the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVRD) for the past ten years, has been selected as the executive director for the 8,000-member California Association of   4-Wheel Drive Clubs, according to association president David Douglas.

Douglas said that Raudy assumed his new duties on April 1, which will call on him to help develop the long-term planning and implement the vision for the statewide association. In addition, Raudy will represent the association with other outdoor recreation groups, government agencies, foundations and he will handle all facets of the community and media relations programs.

"I don’t know how we could have picked a better person for the position," said Douglas. "He has worked with our association for many years; he knows our clubs, he knows our members and he understands our issues. He is a consummate and untiring professional with a tremendous background."

Prior to assuming his association position, Raudy was a senior vice president for Fleishman-Hillard International Communications in Sacramento, where in addition to serving the OHMVRD, he also served as a consultant to SBC Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell, Union Pacific Railroad, Anheuser-Busch Companies, and a coalition of California renewable energy providers.

Prior to his tenure with Fleishman-Hillard, Raudy worked as a public relations consultant to the California construction industry. His responsibilities included monitoring issues and trends affecting the industry, communicating industry position to the media, editing a quarterly tabloid newsletter and managing a public education campaign for the passage of two statewide transportation ballot measures.

Prior to his civilian career, Raudy spent nearly 24 years on active duty with the U.S. Army in a variety of positions throughout the world. Before retiring as a lieutenant colonel, he served as the public affairs officer at Fort Hood, Texas. His responsibilities included acting as base spokesman, media relations for a five-state area, managing a 34-page weekly newspaper, and overseeing a closed-circuit radio and television station.

Raudy has a master’s degree in mass communications from Texas Tech University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Portland State University.

"I am absolutely delighted to have been selected for this important position," Raudy said. "In addition to having a lot of fun four-wheeling in the backcountry, this organization is extremely active in the community and has an excellent relationship with a host of government organizations. We have a host of challenges, but nothing more important than continuing to be good stewards of the land and ensuring we do everything possible to keep public lands open for all outdoor enthusiasts."

Since 1959, the California Association of 4-Wheel Drive Clubs has actively promoted the advancement of vehicle oriented outdoor recreation. Today, the Association represents more than 8,000 members and 160 member clubs. It is the largest organization of its type in the country and represents owners of all makes and models of four wheel drive vehicles, as well as non-owners who support responsible vehicle oriented recreation.
