PLACERVILLE, CA (July 31, 2004) – The Placerville-based Flat Fender Jeep Club will host a historical and scenic four-wheel drive adventure on Saturday, Sept. 11, retracing the 1848 Mormon Pioneers route through the Sierras.

According to Oly Olson, one of the event organizers, this fully-narrated trip from Placerville, Calif. to Genoa, Nev., is family-oriented and is designed for sport utility and other four-wheel drive vehicles with low range. Olson said some mild four-wheeling would be required.

"We will be taking our guests on the Mormon Emigrant Trail that was used by the Mormon pioneers when their church called them back to the Salt Lake Valley from California," said Olson. "It is a very scenic trip and participants will be afforded an opportunity to learn from Mormon diaries and visit locations where there are still visible ruts left by their wagon wheels and explore their old campsites."

Olson explained that his club would provide guests with printed information to read as they follow the histroric route.

The cost for this enjoyable one-day trip on the trail is $75 per vehicle. Guests will furnish their own food and beverages. Olson said that each vehicle will need to have a Citizens Band (CB) radio and he also suggests bringing lawn chairs, and a camera.

Motel and restaurant information for the Placerville and Carson City, Nevada area will be available on request. Meeting times and location in Placerville will be provided in the registration packets.
