SCENIC AND HISTORICAL SUV TOUR
 IN THE PLUMAS NATIONAL FOREST

Saturday, July 9, 2005

SACRAMENTO (June 12, 2005) – Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and other four-wheel drive owners are invited to join the Sacramento-based Sierra Treasure Hunters four-wheel drive club on an scenic and historical off road adventure along the middle fork of the Feather River in the beautiful Plumas National Forest on Saturday, July 9.

Ron Kellogg, one of the trip organizers, said that this family-oriented adventure would begin at the Little Grass Valley Reservoir near the historic town of LaPorte and require some mild four-wheeling. "Anyone owning a SUV with four-wheel drive and low range will have no difficultly at all on this trip," Kellogg said. "We will have experienced trail guides with us and they will assist participants with any and all needs along the trail."

The Plumas National Forest trek will afford participants the opportunity to travel along the middle fork of the Feather River on unpaved forest service roads through designated wild and scenic backcountry. Guests on this narrated trip will see and learn about the flood of gold-seeking miners in 1850 that poured into the canyons and valley in search of a fabled "Gold" Lake.

Kellogg explained that this is a perfect time of the year for observing vibrant green everywhere surrounding the nearly 100 waterfalls in the area and the opportunity to see mankind’s feats to produce hydroelectric power.

The Plumas National Forest trip will include several stops at significant historical points of interest and scenic overlooks. Lunch, soft drinks, water and snacks will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a Citizens Band (CB) or Family Channel radio to listen to narration along the route. Additionally, families should pack folding chairs, suntan lotion and cameras, as there will be ample photo opportunities.

Cost for the trip is $50 per adult and children 12 year of age and under are welcome free of charge.

To register to this exciting one-day off road adventure, contact Matt Hoey at (530) 902-2091 or email bronco754@hotmail.com  or visit the club’s website at www.creationnonstop.com/sth/goldcountrysuv.html .
