Gate the Rubicon???
by Del Albright
NO! There's no gate on the Rubicon and we got the idea put to rest. Nonetheless, the Rubicon is in trouble and needs your help.Yes, this crown jewel of off highway recreation is threatened by closures and restrictions. Please jump in and help if you can.
Here's the deal I'm sure you've read about the local water agency in the Lake Tahoe area threatening Placer County with severe fines if they don't mitigate the water runoff (and sediment load) of the Rubicon trail road. The upper end (Lake Tahoe) side of the trail runs along McKinney creek, which drains into Lake Tahoe. For a bunch of reasons that I would rather not get into for this article, suffice it say that we MUST do some road work on the Rubicon, or it could be gated. We need your help if you can swing it
We've formed a multi-organizational group of clubs and individuals called the Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR). FOTR is an informal collection of folks ho just want to keep the Rubicon open and accessible. There are no dues; no members (per se); and no formalities. We simply want to work on the trail and keep it open. Potential dates for trail work have been selected. Volunteers are needed. Most all our communications are via email. Sign up for work projects is available on this web site:www.goldrush.net/~jeepndel/rubicon.htm
You can sign up just to be kept informed; help pass along emails; send letters; do work; provide material; whatever. If you want to keep the Rubicon open, here's your chance. No help, no matter from how far away, will be turned down.
We are working closely with Placer County, who by the way, are very supportive of our efforts and grateful for our volunteer involvement. This is going to be a win win for all of us.
Again, we've got the gate idea put to rest. But it's not over yet. We must show up in force to keep this trail open.Friends of the Rubicon asks for your help and support. Join us. thanks, DEL Email: del@delalbright.com
