Times are subject to change!!! Check on-site boards for any changes.

Friday Run

Our first run of Hi Desert Round-Up 2015 will start Friday night:

  • Friday Evening Run

This is a run for all vehicle types, and it will take you from the moonlit desert canyon to a starry vista.
    Difficulty Rating: 2
    Hosted by: Volunteer needed
    CB Channel: 12
Line Up: 7:45 PM Drivers' Meeting: 8 PM Leaves: 8:15 PM
  • 1

Saturday Runs

On Saturday morning it's up and at 'em. This year we might have eight trails running through the desert area:

  • Achy Breaky

This is a rough, well-named run. A suspension lift and at least one locker are strongly recommended. Most obstacles have bypasses, but there are several steep hill climbs and rocky areas where body or parts damage are possible.
    Difficulty Rating: 3
    Hosted by: GenRight Off Road
    CB Channel: 19
Line Up: 8:30 AM Drivers' Meeting: 9:00 AM Leaves: 9:30 AM
  • Blue Moon

This is a run for all size vehicles, stock or otherwise. It will run through several canyons and around the bigger mountains. There are several loose hill climbs and scenic trails along the ridges.
    Difficulty Rating: 2
    Hosted by Jesse May/Dirt Devils
    CB Channel: 21
Line Up: 8:30 AM Drivers' Meeting: 8:30 AM Leaves: 9:00 AM
  • Calico Run

This run is limited to the first 25 that sign up, and is open to long and short wheelbase vehicles with at least 33" tires, one locker and a lift. Not for oversized vehicles or Stock SUV's. Weather and erosion have increased the difficulty of these historic roads. Body damage, scrapes and scratches are possible. 22 miles of pavement driving from Slash X to trail head, where we will air down. The trail heads up Doran Canyon that has challenging waterfalls to climb that will definitely test a driver's ability. We will be stopping to check out the Bismark Mine area and then heading down Odessa Canyon where again drivers ability will be tested with very tight canyon passes and narrow shelf roads.
    Difficulty Rating: 3+
Hosted by: High Desert 4 Wheelers
    CB Channel: 2
Line Up: 7:30 AM Drivers' Meeting: 7:45 AM Leaves: 8:00 AM
  • Devil's Loop

This run will be limited to the first 50 vehicles that sign up. This run can be done by all vehicle types, but long wheelbase vehicles will have difficulty in some spots. At least a limited slip is required, one hard locker is recommended. The trail has rock crawling sections with good-sized rocks, several rocky canyons, a few tight squeezes, some off-cambers, and several loose hill climbs. Some of the more difficult spots have bypasses, but two do not. Body damage is possible, breakage has happened in the past. There is a rock pile obstacle at the beginning of the trail. If you have trouble here, you will want to consider returning to camp and running the Blue Moon run. The Blue Moon run will start at 9 a.m. and will line-up near camp. Trail leaders will be checking all vehicles in line and talking to the owners of questionable vehicles.
    Difficulty Rating: 2.5
    Hosted by: Dirt Devils 4WDC
    CB Channel: 4
Line Up: 7:30 AM Drivers' Meeting: 7:30 AM Leaves: 8:00 AM
  • El Diablo

This run will be limited to the first 40 vehicles that sign up. An old favorite returns with a twist - it will be run in the reverse direction. What was once very steep descents are now steep canyon climbs, and vice versa. This run will go up or down 7 to 9 canyons in the hills southwest of camp. You will experience a range of challenges, tight rocky canyons, loose uphill climbs, off-camber lefts and rights on ridgelines, and downhills on steep canyons with twists and turns. This trail also has very scenic views of the entire valley area. Vehicles will be required to have at least 33" tires, a single full locker in the rear or dual limited slips.
    Difficulty Rating: 4
    Hosted by: Volunteer needed
    CB Channel: 7
Line Up: 7:30 AM Drivers' Meeting: 7:45 AM Leaves: 8:00 AM
  • Jack Rabbit Trail

This is a new trail that travels through canyons and hillsides north of the Slash X. This run is limited to the first 20 vehicles that sign up. Min 35" tires, lockers front and rear, and an experienced driver are strongly advised. This run has some steep climbs up loose material, rocky canyons, off camber areas and a few waterfalls. Because the trail has not been driven much, many portions have unsure footing and rocks and dirt can move around. Desert pinstripes and scratched skid plates are almost certain on this trail.
    Difficulty Rating: 4.5
    Hosted by: John Snell/Desert Dawgs
    CB Channel: 12
Line Up: 7:30 AM Drivers' Meeting: 7:45 AM Leaves: 8:00 AM
  • Pumpkin Eater

This run will be limited to the first 25 vehicles that sign up. Requirements are: 33" tires (35" recommended), double-hard lockers and usable tow hooks. A winch is strongly recommended. This run will go up two steep canyons with rocks and bigger rocks. Also, there will be a V-notch, a dry waterfall climb or two, and maybe a hill climb. This is an EXTRA ROUGH run with limited bypasses. Body and drivetrain damage are likely. Due to some changes in our run, those with 33" tires will be advised to take alternates on 2 sections of the trail. There will be a vehicle check in line. Get lined up early so you can join another run if you don't pass the scrutiny.
    Difficulty Rating: 4 to 4.5
Hosted by: Tony Pellegrino - GenRight Off Road
    CB Channel: 17
Line Up: 8:15 AM Drivers' Meeting: 9:00 AM Leaves: 9:15 AM
  • UTV/Side X Side Run

This is a run for all side x side vehicles (UTV) with 4-wheel drive, stock or otherwise. This run will take an off road route to the historic Calico Ghost Town and then explore the area before the off road return to camp.
    Difficulty Rating: 2
    Hosted by: GenRight Off Road
    CB Channel: 25
Line Up: 9:00 AM Drivers' Meeting: 9:00 AM Leaves: 10:00 AM
  • Jesse's Southern Lights (Saturday Night)

This run will start approximately 15 minutes after the end of the 'Best Equipped' game. The run will take you to the top of a mountain where you will be able to see the lights of Victorville and Barstow. SUV's with running boards are not recommended. Vehicles should have at least 31" tires; otherwise, you might drag the underneath a little.
    Difficulty Rating: 2.5
    Hosted by Jesse May/Dirt Devils
    CB Channel: 15
Line Up: Approximately 9:30 PM (after the 'Best Equipped' game) Drivers' Meeting: Same as Line Up Leaves: 10:00 PM

Sunday Runs

On Sunday morning we have two trails running through the desert area:

  • Devil's Loop Backwards

This run will be limited to the first 50 vehicles that sign up. This run can be done by all vehicle types, but long wheelbase vehicles will have difficulty in some spots. At least a limited slip is required, one hard locker is recommended. The trail has rock crawling sections with good-sized rocks, several rocky canyons, a few tight squeezes, some off-cambers, and several loose hill climbs. Some of the more difficult spots have bypasses, but two do not. Body damage is possible, breakage has happened in the past. There is a rock pile obstacle at the beginning of the trail. • HDR Geotactical Relay

There will be a minimum of two teams. Communication is key to this exercise. Ham Radio is preferred but not required, CB or FRS radio can also be used. One GPS unit per team is required each member is encouraged to have a GPS but not required.

The teams will work through a series of objectives to capture the Tactical Objective before the other team. The first team to capture the objective will win a prize.

The maximum number of vehicles for this run is 14, there can be more than one person per vehicle. That is two teams with a max number of vehicles per team of 6 and two vehicles that function as over-watch for each team. To make this work I would need a min of 4 vehicles to sign up.

This will be open to all vehicles SUV's will be able to participate, there will be very mild four- wheeling involved.
