By now you all know that Sierra Trek had to be cancelled. You might also know that attendance at events is down a bit. What does this mean for the Association? THAT DEPENDS ON YOU!

I know times are tough. I have friends who have been laid off of work. And we won’t event talk about fuel prices... But I have a suggestion for you. If you can’t go to an event, either because you can’t afford it, you can’t get the time off of work, or you just don’t like the location, REGISTER ANYWAY! And while you are at it, order a t-shirt. Each registration counts, and if we all do our part, we can soften the blow from our biggest fundraiser being forced off the books.

Now this message is not for those folks who volunteer and work other events. I know you do your part, and then some. This message is for those folks who maybe aren’t as active in the Association but are supportive. We need you help now more than ever.

That brings up Operation Desert Fun 5!!! I know it is quite a drive for many of you, and I know how much some of you love the desert – NOT! So send me your registration anyway. And don’t forget to order a shirt or two. I will make every effort to send you your shirt and dash plaque as soon as the event is over, and you would have my sincerest thanks. And for the rest of you, come out to ODF 5!

We have 4X4, motorcycle and ATV runs for every skill level, so if you are a seasoned wheeler or just starting out, we have something for you. We also have a Friday night Poker Run. Each person registered gets one hand with the winner receiving a bag of goodies. We will also sell hands for a $5 donation each, and the winner will receive half of the pot with the Cal-Diego Paralyzed Veterans receiving the other half.

We are also bringing back the RC Truck Challenge, so if you have a radio controlled monster, bring it out. Compete for trophies and prizes. It’s fun to do and fun to watch.

Or go on the Saturday afternoon Fun Run. Test your game skills at random stops doing who-knows-what at each stop!

And this year I have exciting news. Desiree Bates of Born Dirty InDUSTries has arranged for local TV and Radio Personality Dave Stall to broadcast his radio show LIVE from ODF on Saturday afternoon! He will be interviewing sponsors and vendors on his show, so that is an extra incentive to donate to this worthy cause.

All donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. All the proceeds from donations go directly to the Cal-Diego PVA, and I know you all have a soft spot in your hearts for our men and women who serve our country. These folks paid a high price for their service, and this event is our way of showing them how much we appreciate their sacrifice.

Oh yeah, and let’s not forget the Powder Puff Run! To drive, you have to be a woman or dress like one, and last year we had several actual females drive! Woohoo! Scott Clark won the "Ugliest Broad in the Desert" as the leader of this run, but rumor has it he has some competition this year. That alone is worth the price of admission!

So come out and join us, donate, or just register, and show your support for not just your Association, but the Paralyzed Veterans as well.
